Description
 

Protein skimmer is the only type of filter that removes organic wastes. Utilizes a needle wheel pump to create fine bubbles while drawing aquarium water into the reaction chamber. Bubbles carry the wastes to the top of reaction chamber where the foam flows into the collection cup. Substances in the cup can range from watery pale yellow liquid to a dark greenish-brown tar depending on the amount of dissolved protein and waste in the aquarium water.

For Hang-On Installation:
6.50" clearance required behind the aquarium
Unobstructed space requires for the U-tube and discharge outlet inside the aquarium 8"x 5"x 5"

For In-Sump Installation:
28" height from bottom of sump to the cabinet ensuring adequate space to remove the cup
Space requires to place the protein skimmer inside the sump 10"x 12"

Production far exceeds it's reputation. April 13, 2010

I was very skeptical of this skimmer because of all of the negative opinions online however anyone that has actually used this skimmer now understands that it's actually pretty dang good my only gripe is that idk how to set up a sump so i have to use it as a HOB skimmer so i cant give it a 5 because i cant try it at maxium performance.

The Odyssea PS160 Protein Skimmer, is a great buy. I've had mine about 2 months and it's working perfectly.  It took a couple of days for the foam to develop well enough to collect and remove waste but now its going fine. Any name brand equivalent would go for at least $300 and up.

Use it in-sump to get the best out of it December 24, 2009

I have been using this skimmer for about two and a half years - the first couple months I used it as a hang-on, but then set up a sump, put the skimmer in there, and WOW! If you use this skimmer in a sump NOT as a hang-on, you will get as much out of it as a skimmer that costs hundred of dollars!   This skimmer has a mediocre reputation among the majority of reefers who have not even used one, because 1. they hear opinions about it from people who have only used it as a hang-on, and 2. because most of them have the attitude that anything with a cheap price tag is of low quality.  If this skimmer was marketed as being primarily for use in a sump, it's faulty reputation would drastically improve.  Please use this skimmer in a sump!  Oh, and doing a "mesh mod" will increase the skimmer's effectiveness even more - perhaps Odyssea should mesh mod them as a part of the manufacturing.
